The oceans are our planet’s life support system yet, over the past decades, we have seen the systematic destruction of oceans due to pollution and over-fishing (among other factors). In July 2018, BSST partnered with IT giants, Network Configurations, for an intensive marine education drive for children from disadvantaged schools. Combining fun, practical education and the thrill of exploration, it was a memorable experience for the 110 Grade 8 learners and their teachers during the visit to WESSA Treasure Beach on the Bluff, a 20-minute drive from Durban. They received hands-on lessons and guidance from experts as they explored the rocky shores and sandy shores, and played exciting educational games. The experience was fascinating yet enriching, as the children learned how to build a more sustainable future by caring for our planet and oceans.
