The Wonderful Wildlife

Activity Book

Fun and Factual learning activities for kids throughout Africa!

Imagine living so close to nature that every sight, sound and smell is part of who you are, but you are never taught the true value of what it is?

This is the reality of millions of children throughout Africa who live on the borders of Nature Reserves, who unknowingly rely on the income from Tourism, who personally know Poachers but are unaware of the damage and destruction that poaching is doing to their futures. Their life experience with the wild is very different to that of a tourist, and yet one expects that they should be as saddened by poaching as we are. This is not possible without education; it is not possible for our future voices to stand against something they do not know or understand to be wrong. They cannot know any different until they have a full understanding of how conserving wildlife will impact their lives in the future.

Professor Doris Fromberg, Director of Early Childhood Teacher Education at Hofstra University, explains beautifully why play and fun activities are such an important part of the learning process.

“We need to consider that young children learn in quite different ways than adults. They learn by comparing physical experiences, by interactions with other people and their own feelings. And they learn an enormous amount through their imagination…Play is what pulls together the logical and creative parts of the brain”.

As more and more conservation agencies, activist organisations and lobby groups are growing and engaging with communities on the outskirts and borders of these Nature areas, BLUE SKY SOCIETY TRUST, has designed with the input of educators and very knowledgeable Thought Leaders in the conservation arenas, a colourful, fun and factual booklet that is distributed by the various groups to school children throughout Africa. Currently crafted in English, Zulu and Portuguese, they have distributed 105 000 booklets to date. Tsonga translation of THE WONDERFUL WILDLIFE ACTIVITY BOOK is underway as this will expand areas of distribution.

We are looking for companies, schools, lodges, organisations or individuals to support this initiative to cover the costs of printing and distribution. The more we print the more cost effective it becomes. Add you company name and become part of the solution.

These books are distributed to children in rural communities adjacent to wildlife areas. From South Africa, all the way up into Kenya. The goal is to connect them to nature through fun educational  games and facts. So far we have distributed in 10 African countries – South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique, Zambia, Eswatini, Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Botswana, Zimbabwe. We would like to do MORE and translate into more languages worldwide.

We worth through conservation groups that have existing wildlife educational footprints with eco-clubs and schools. We have translated the books from English into Zulu and Portuguese.
