Journeys With Purpose

Journeys with Purpose (#JWP) connects ethical adventure travel with the purpose of making a difference. These self-drive adventures are organised and led by Carla Geyser, the founder of the Blue Sky Society Trust (BSST) who has, to date, led many successful trips into Africa. If you are an enthusiastic adventurer who is passionate about conservation and takes life as it comes, then this is for you! #JWP brings together like-minded people from around the world on trips that focus on visiting and raising funds for wildlife initiatives along the route.

Here at Blue Sky Society Trust, we wake up each day and do something we really love! We are inspired, and we get to inspire others to go out and do things that inspire them. It is truly the most wonderful thing in the world to be able to make a difference! In fact, the best part is figuring out the many ways we can do it. One of them is through our #JWP initiatives.

Journeys with Purpose combines ethical adventure travel in Africa with fundraising and giving back. 2019 is going to be exhilarating, filled with adventure, fun and doing good.Imagine the stories you could tell your grandchildren one day! Stories of exploring Mama Africa’s exquisite beauty and how you helped save lives! If this is a chapter you would like to write, then please find out more below. These expeditions often involve driving long distances over bumpy dusty roads, camping in remote areas, and at times being without cell service for days and of course loads of giving back through hands-on charity work This is not a tour but rather a team expedition, and every member of the team is expected to pitch in with cooking, cleaning, camp set up etc. It is the experience of a lifetime, and we would love to have exploratory fun-filled compassionate spirits along for the ride. Are you up for the challenge? This is a LIMITED entry journey, which means only a few people get to experience this unforgettable never to be repeated experience. We only want the deserving to join us, legends who will be remembered for their awesomeness, and ability to go with whatever comes their way, and above all, those able to create smiles and good vibes out of thin air! Africa also teaches you how to take on situations with a bit of a sense of humour.

#JWP expeditions are not for everyone. Carla handpicks the expedition members, always looking for well-rounded individuals of various skills and interests. If you are an enthusiastic adventurer who’s passionate about conservation and who takes life as it comes, then our next #JWP expedition could be for you!

Past Expeditions

Elephant Ignite Expedition

Date: 2016

In 2016, spurred on by the alarming rate of poaching that is decimating Africa’s elephant population, Blue Sky Society founder, Carla Geyser, travelled 16 000km across 10 countries with a group of women who shared a passion for wildlife conservation. The Journeys with Purpose: Elephant Ignite Expedition saw the team visiting 37 conservation organisations, engaging with communities along the way and distributing 20 000 educational booklets. It was an epic expedition that connected localised communities with conservation champions with the purpose of saving Africa’s majestic beasts and raised funds for 10 remarkable organisations dedicated to protecting wildlife. So began the Journeys with Purpose legacy.

Rise of the Matriarch

September: 2018

50 days, 4 countries, 11 235km. In 2018, Blue Sky Society founder, Carla Geyser, led an international all-women team on a second conservation SOS mission into Southern Africa. The Journeys with Purpose: The Rise of the Matriarch expedition spanned South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia, and saw 12 eco “she-roes” from around the world interacting with extraordinary women who are doing phenomenal work on-the-ground to save our planet and all precious life on it. The eco-adventure raised global awareness about the contentious human-wildlife conflict issue, educated the youth about conservation, supported local empowerment efforts targeting young women from localised, rural communities, and raised funds for four conservation bodies, namely Elephants Alive (South Africa), Rare and Endangered Species Trust (Namibia), Eco-Exist Project (Botswana) and the Soft Foot Alliance Trust (Zimbabwe).
