“I am a fun-loving, adventurous down to earth person madly in love with Mama Africa and everything she has to offer. I’ve had the most incredible life experiences and I strongly believe that the best is still yet to come. I have been fortunate to have travelled and lived overseas and I also lived in the bush for a few years, where I fell head over heels with nature and our wildlife. My free spirit has always wanted to travel Africa and the rest of the world. There is so much to see and do in life. My bucket list just seems to get longer and longer. I was very fortunate to have taken part in the ‘Put Foot Rally 2012’, which was a life-changing experience that helped further fuel my passion for Africa and left me yearning to do more. With my positive attitude, incredible support system and boundless energy I am ready to jump right in and make things happen. My mantra is to always live, laugh and love.”

“I used to sit with my Dad for many hours discussing how having a positive attitude can really affect your outlook on life. He always used to say to me, ‘Carla, we have to open up a society and we are going to call it The Blue Sky Society, because when the clouds go away, all that is left are Blue Skies. The only prerequisite to becoming a member is that you have to have to have a positive outlook and be happy’.“

At the beginning of 2011 Carla took it to the next level, getting actively involved helping animals and people in need, and sharing her boundless energy and love for life with others. Carla started Blue Sky Society as an organisation where other like-minded people could connect and share their ideas, passion and skills to effect change where it is needed the most. Lets see where this takes me……

Administration manager

Born and bred in the United Kingdom with an English Father and an Irish Mother there was no way I was ever going to live in one place and call it home! If you asked me now where my home is I would tell you I am lucky enough to say I have more than one beautiful place I call home!

I moved to South Africa just over 10 years ago. Living in London at the time I met a Saffa Alpha Male and he convinced me to pack up my life as I knew it and move to South Africa! With a passion for adventure and having never been to Southern Africa I said goodbye to my family and we left London in 2006 (I agreed to go for 4 years only!)! We flew directly to Kenya where we picked up one of the overland trucks and we did what was a 5 week trip down through Africa prior to arriving into our new home! Well we fell in love with everything Africa had to offer us and when it came to leaving the trip in Zimbabwe we decided there was no way we could miss out on the last 3 weeks of travelling through Botswana and Namibia and that was one of the best decisions we ever made! The Okavango Delta was and still is the most incredible place I have ever visited, it truly stole my heart. We finally arrived in our new home Durban and proceeded to start a new life.

The last 10 years of my life have consisted of working within the project management, event services, hospitality and large scale events sector it has been an incredibly rewarding time. I spent 5 wonderful years working for The Inside Edge who operates exclusively within the Incentive and Destination Management Industry where I had the fortunate opportunity to travel a lot around South Africa allowing me to get to see the beauty of this country. Following on from this I needed a change and it came in the form of Top Gear Festival, an established global brand, offering a unique motoring festival held in key cities around the world. Top Gear Festivals was brought to Durban and I worked on the team for four years. In between this I married the Alpha Male and had a little boy!

Now my path has changed again and I am very fortunate to be working with Blue Sky Society as a Project Manager, I cannot wait to see where this new journey will take me.

“I am a born and bred Durbanite who fell in love with the bush at an early age. I spent a large portion of my twenties working at game reserves and it was then that my love for the bush was cemented. I knew that I would always be committed to preserving the beauty of Mama Afrika.

It was also at Mala Mala Game Reserve that I first met Carla and our friendship began. Our love of travel, fun and passion for helping others has kept this friendship alive and seen us though many adventures. I returned to Durban in 2002 and could not be happier living in the land of the Zulu surrounded by family and friends and beauty on all fronts.

In 2012, Carla and I signed up for the Put Foot Rally – this was an amazing life changing experience. Our passion and absolute belief in the greater good has attracted amazing like minded people into our lives and set in motion some very exciting projects.

This led Carla to open the Blue Sky Society, and I am proud to be one of its trustees. Life is too short to focus on the negative. We need to work together to make positive change. The Blue Sky society gives me the opportunity to help raise money and awareness for causes that are close to my heart, changing lives one person or one animal at a time. Ultimately we are all responsible for our own destinies.”

A native American Elder once said:

Honour the sacred.
Honour the Earth, our Mother.
Honour the Elders.
Honour all with whom we
share the Earth:-
Four-legged, two-legged,
winged ones,
Swimmers, crawlers,
plant and rock people.
Walk in balance and beauty

A creed I firmly believe in.

Yolande Kruger

Born and raised in Nelspruit the gateway to the Lowveld I was blessed to have Kruger National Park and a range of other nature reserves right on my doorstep. I grew up with a love and appreciation for the bush and spent most of my free time hiking, camping and exploring under African skies.

I started my working career at the Faculty of Veterinary Science at Onderstepoort in the early ’80’s and was incredibly blessed to work with some of the most brilliant minds in the scientific community. The diverse nature of the research projects we worked on provided more exposure to a broad base of animals and many memorable field trips. Fast forward twenty years, and I am no longer immersed in science but managing my own marketing consulting business focussed on providing businesses with strategic marketing support services.

Still extremely passionate about Africa, I support worthy social responsibility projects and apply my skills set to branding, marketing and fund-raising for selected projects. I was involved in this capacity for the first World Youth Rhino Summit in 2014 and now I’m on a mission to achieve even bigger results for Blue Sky Society Trust. It is a brand that I am proud to be associated with and the projects BSST manages provide tangible benefits to communities and the environment.

In a nutshell… I have a restless nature with lots of creative drive, a healthy dose of impatience, fierce loyalty to friends and family and a wild passion for my work.
